Description
There is a small patch of concrete on the corner of King's Hedges Rec, backing onto Minerva Way, that is currently unused and out of step with the green space nearby. The concreted area would lend itself well to a small community garden project; this proposal would see the addition of some raised beds/planters (ideally made from sustainable, recycled materials such as sleepers or perhaps working with social enterprises such as the Phoenix Trust who make planters). These planters would have the advantage of also being accessible to residents in wheelchairs. There is even the potential to involve residents in the nearby Buchan House or local primary schools. Planters could then be used as a small-scale community food growing space, with herbs and fruit and vegetable plants that would have the additional benefit of encouraging pollinators. The nearby rec is a well used space, particularly in summer - it's become more of a community focus over COVID and adding a food growing project would enhance that even further.
I’m proposing this scheme as a local resident and ward councillor.
