The birth rate is declining nationally and locally. Cambridge birth rates have declined by 14% in the late decade and house prices, even in our area, are pricing out more young families. Of the primary schools I know many are operating with fewer entries than their maximum (e.g. running a one form entry when they could have two, two form entry when they could have three).
Many, many school, especially small schools, in the county are running a deficit budget.
It seems to be that at some point at least one primary school will be surplus to requirement either because of low number and/or running a budget that is too far into deficit.
I'd like to know that the long-term plan is for this so that any school sites that are surplus to requirement are protected for true local use and they aren't just used to squeeze more shoebox flats in. I also want this to be an area where schools are outstanding and people want to be in the area to send their children there.
