Proposed budget

GBP 10,000

Description

Improving Biodiversity on community an amenity greenspace adjacent and leading to Mayfield Primary School off Carisbrooke Road. This space is an established community green space for socialising and play since the estate was first established in the 1960s and covers an area of approximately 2,200sqm. There is an opportunity to improve biodiversity through a number of measures and this may include invertebrate and wildflower banks, with the banks creating a wildflower seed bank, bee-mounds, wildflower swathes under the trees and in the central greenspace areas, import and other biodviersity/landscaping improvements appropriate. This would improve biodiversity and the environment at a local level in this established community, making increasing use of their green assets to address the climate emergency and help increase public support for measures to reduce climate impacts and improve biodiversity. This project provides a chance for a local response and a balance between ease of maintenance and biodiversity improvements. Being in close proximity to the school these biodiversity improvements would showcase both to the community and new generations of school children a positive project, making biodiversity improvements and undertaking real local solutions ensuring these are integral to how we address the climate emergency at a local level. Though the land status is bona vacantia the Council has maintained the land since the early 1990s and has a direct interest in its upkeep/maintenance for public amenity use of residents. This project has support from Local Ward Councillors and HRARA.

That's a great idea! I can see the benefits for the school and community.
Excellent proposal that would hugely benefit the surrounding community and future generations if successful. Be wonderful to see it go ahead.

As a parent, I think this is so important for the children in Mayfield and an excellent use of the space. As an environmentalist, I think this is crucial for the area now and the future that the Council pursues such Green agendas that honour nature and our responsibility to the Earth and promote and educate about it amongst young people.

This is a great proposal and prioritising green initiatives and health and well-being of the children!
What a great idea and a fantastic opportunity for children to experience and explore nature.
I think this proposal is a great idea for residents mental health. It’s crucially important for the mental health of residents and school children and is in line with green policies.
Seems like an inexpensive and effective improvement to the local environment. I support this idea.
                  Great idea! Yes please!
