More accessible community growing spaces (garden/farm/allotment)
From "Environmental Improvement Programme 2023-24: New bidding round"
Go to the project
Bringing in more accessible areas for people to grow food and flowers, is a useful way to turn mowed grassland into a bio diverse, wildlife rich area. Also helping to offset carbon emissions in the city. There are plenty of mown grassland spaces, where this project could be held: Jesus green, midsummer common, christs peice, coldhams common, Parker’s peice. Community growing spaces are very important for the communities health, giving access to healthy, local produce, where there may have not been access before. I think there are many people who’d be interested in taking part in such a project, as you see with the year long waiting lists at allotment sites. As people just want to grow! There just isn’t the access to plots of land where people can grow food themselves.
