Description
The west end of Hazelwood Close has been designated as a happy bee street. The volunteers would like raised beds on the patch of grass where Hazelwood Close meets Molewood Close, so we could fill them with shade-loving plants. This corner is near a bin and can collect some rubbish, and the tree has been spray painted, so it could do with a bit of love. Right now the grass provides very little in the way of biodiversity or visual interest. The tree is very nice, but its dense root system means that the ground is quite hard here so raised beds would be great for growing additional plants. The happy bee street volunteers could plant and maintain the beds.
This would be a relatively low-cost project. We estimate:
- wood 12 x £27.50 = £330 (100cmx200cmx2.4m, Travis Perkins)
- soil 1.5 cu m £240 (Denise’s delight/ blended loam from Madingley Mulch)
- hardware (e.g. screws) £30
