Metal work barriers

Obstacles rather than protections they litter all public and green spaces. Timber fencing in limited spaces is a better option. Around Parker's piece, they thwart all transit. Hedges and trees would delineate pathways, allow spaces for play, sport and create intimate spaces for picnics. Superfluous metal in children's play areas should be replaced by forgiving wood and tarmac by soft grass. The main rail station concourse is a bereft expanse of concrete which needs to recover the cycle spaces, shrubs, hedges and meaningful sculpture that enlivens public space and encourages rail travel. Budgets for city architecture across the city must be fairly distributed so that college gardens are not the exclusive preserve of tourists and a few but inspiration for green spaces across the city.
