Community Infrastructure Levy

Open for comments from Monday 16 February to Sunday 29 March 2026.

Cambridge City Council and South Cambridgeshire District Council intends to submit a Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) Draft Charging Schedule for examination under Section 212 of the Planning Act 2008.

CIL is a charge which can be levied by local authorities on new development in their area. It is an important tool local authorities use to help them deliver the infrastructure needed to support development in their area. The councils propose adopting CIL to help pay for the strategic transport infrastructure required in Cambridge and South Cambridgeshire.

Before submitting a draft charging schedule for examination the council must make a copy of the draft charging schedule, the relevant evidence and a statement of the representations procedure available for inspection.

The councils will submit to the examiner copies of any representations made, a statement setting out the number of representations made, and a summary of the main issues raised.

We have published our draft charging schedule which explains the types of development that we are proposing paying CIL and how much they would be required to pay for each new square metre of floorspace that is built in the area. Our infrastructure statement and viability report demonstrates that we have struck an appropriate balance between the need to fund infrastructure and the potential implications for the viability of development across the area.

Electronic representations can be submitted via the consultation platform or directly to CIL@greatercambridgeplanning.org
