Phase 2: Articulating the vision and emerging principles of the design code
Open for comments from Monday 9 October to Sunday 5 November.
In phase 1 we engaged with the community using our online survey and interactive map, culminating with a workshop at Meadows Community Centre on 27 September.
Using your priorities, feedback and our findings so far, we have created five clear principles which will improve the design of your neighbourhood.
We need your views on the five principles as we begin to develop the draft design code. Have your say in our phase 2 survey, located on the right-hand side of this page.
As well as the survey, phase 2 includes an in-person event at Meadows Community Centre on Wednesday 18 October from 4 to 7pm.
As a result of the phase 1 survey and workshops, we have looked to set up clear priorities that the design code should deliver.
We are proposing to structure the document under the headings of five principles. They have been chosen to be memorable and to have a clearly understood focus.
Each principle will include a range of technical design guidance showing how they can be delivered, and how the principles can work together successfully to make attractive places.
Please answer the questions in our phase 2 survey, where we have listed some design aspects we expect to cover within each of the principles.
Next steps
Your views will help us develop the final content of the documents. We will consider all comments, although we cannot respond to them individually.
In phase 3 we will share a summary of the main elements of the code, with an opportunity to make further comments which the team will consider. After this we will present the draft code for your feedback.
Once phase 3 has concluded, the draft design code will be formally consulted before it seeks adoption as a Supplementary Planning Document in Spring 2024.

Workshop
Our latest in-person event will take place at Meadows Community Centre on Wednesday 18 October from 4 to 7pm. Refreshments will be provided for all and a free prize draw for a £20 gift voucher will take place.
