Housing Strategy 2024-29

Cambridge City Council and South Cambridgeshire District Council are seeking views on a new draft Greater Cambridge Housing Strategy.

Open for comments from Monday 22 January to Sunday 3 March 2024.

Cambridge and South Cambridgeshire are great places to live in, but not everyone is able to access good quality housing which they can afford to live in.

Housing is central to both councils’ ambitions for sustainable growth, for jobs and prosperity, and for the health and wellbeing of our residents.

Strategy and annexes

Our draft strategy outlines our approach to bringing forward new homes in a sustainable way, at a range of price points, to meet a wide range of housing needs.

However, the draft strategy is not just about new homes. It is also about our approach to improving conditions, affordability and sustainability for people living in existing homes, supporting health and wellbeing, and enabling people to live settled lives.

It is aimed mainly at partners involved in supporting the implementation of our priorities and others with an interest, including those directly affected by housing issues.

The draft strategy is made up of a main document and a set of annexes. It should be read in conjunction with the annexes, which provide further detail on our policy direction in particular areas, a summary of evidence used to support the strategy, and a glossary of terms; as well as a summary of achievements since the publication of the last strategy in 2019.

Some of these policy annexes are aimed at supporting the delivery of new homes through our Local Plans and will be a material consideration in dealing with planning applications.
