Improving biodiversity in St Albans Road recreation ground
Open for comments from Thursday 9 May to Monday 17 June 2024.
Environmental Improvement Programme (EIP) funding has been approved for the purpose of improving biodiversity in St Albans Road recreation ground.
St Albans Road recreation ground is one of a number of recreation grounds we manage across the city. It is an established recreational green space for sport, socialising and nature in Arbury ward.
This project focuses exclusively on the green space next to the new Meadows Community Centre off Arbury Road and adjacent to St Albans Road. It doesn't include the play area and surrounds.
Proposals for the project consist of:
- new hedge planting along the St Albans Road boundary edge of the recreation space.
- wildflower and bulb planting under the trees and in the boundary wildlife area on the edge of the green space
- tree planting to increase canopy cover and increase biodiversity
- deadwood logs to encourage further wildlife
- enhanced maintenance access gateway
Creating hedgerow habitats will help to increase biodiversity as well as aesthetic appeal.
Hedgerows provide interest and colour for people, refuge and a variety of food for wildlife, and ensure habitat connectivity.
Please see the draft plan below.
