We welcome well behaved dogs in the majority of our parks and open spaces. However, we do place restrictions in certain areas.

We are consulting on a proposed Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) for dog control in Cambridge. The proposed order would help address issues linked to irresponsible dog ownership in public spaces, including dog fouling, dogs not being kept under control, and dogs entering restricted areas.

The PSPO would replace existing Dog Control Orders and allow us to continue protecting parks, play areas, open spaces, and shared public areas across the city. The proposed measures are intended to balance the needs of dog owners with the safety and enjoyment of other residents, visitors and nature.

The proposed order includes:

• requiring people to clean up after their dogs
• requiring dogs to be kept on leads in certain locations or at certain times
• excluding dogs from some fenced play areas and sports pitches
• requiring owners to put dogs on leads if directed by an authorised officer
